Carmen

Lisa Marie Rogali

Carmen

Award-winning American mezzo-soprano Lisa Marie Rogali has been praised for her “warm, nuanced voice” and “spontaneity” on the stage. Her powerful stage presence and vocal versatility showcase her as an artist who is destined for a significant career.

This season, Ms. Rogali returns to Virginia Opera to make her role debut as Angelina in La Cenerentola. She brings her magnetic Carmen to both Toledo Opera and Gulfshore Opera and returns to Detroit Opera as the Offred Double in The Handmaid’s Tale.

In the 2024–25 season, Ms. Rogali made her début as the title role of Carmen with both Virginia Opera and Florentine Opera, a portrayal hailed by the Virginian Pilot as “the essence of sultry, supple sex appeal, especially when she lounges on a table or seductively dances.” As part of Sarasota Opera’s Winter Festival, she reprised her charming Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia, garnering high praise from Opera News, which called her “a Rossini star in the making.” Her celebrated Rosina was also seen at Central City Opera.

Ms. Rogali has participated in several esteemed young artist programs, including Detroit Opera, Minnesota Opera, The Glimmerglass Festival, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, and Opera Saratoga. She is a graduate of The University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music (M.M. Vocal Performance).

Brendan Boyle

Don Jose

Lyric tenor and rising star Brendan Boyle is renowned for his combination of heroic sound and imposing stage presence. In 2025, he made his role debut as Don José in Carmen at Toledo Opera and Hawaii Opera Theater.

Recent performances include the role of the Prince in Rusalka with Wichita Grand Opera and Cavaradossi in Tosca with Toledo Opera. Upcoming performances include Nikolaus Sprink in Silent Night, with Opera Orlando, and Alexander Simpson in Sheltering Tree, with Hawaii Opera.

Tyler Putnam

Bass-Baritone

Escamillo

Tyler Putnam, bass-baritone, has been praised for his “robust and resonant” voice and versatile performances. A GO favorite, he returns after last season’s memorable performance as Wotnek in Rusalka. He recently made his European debut as Sparafucile and Monterone in Rigoletto in Sweden. His U.S. roles include Leporello in Don Giovanni, Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte, and Colline in La bohème.

Tyler’s career spans traditional roles, world premieres, operetta, and musical theater. He recently performed the villain Marduk in Cosmic Cowboy and originated the role of Cura Viejo in Behold the Man. An apprentice at Santa Fe Opera, he debuted roles in Cold Mountain and The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs.

Avery Boettcher

Avery Boettcher, soprano, returns to GO after her dazzling performance of Donna Elvira in Season 9 Don Giovanni. Known for her vocal expressivity and agility that leaves the listener on the edge of their seat – Opera News hailed her as a “joy to watch,” praising her for her “poignant” and “impassioned” interpretations.

The 2025/26 season sees her making several exciting roles and company debuts; the season begins with her long-awaited role debut as Violetta Valéry in Verdi’s La Traviata in her company debut with Livermore Valley Opera. She will then reprise the role of Violetta with the Festival Santa Lucía. She will then make her role debut in her return to Gulfshore Opera as Michaëla in Bizet’s Carmen.

Julia Izquierdo

Soprano

Frasquita

Julia Izquierdo, a soprano from Miami, Florida, is a rising young artist quickly making her mark on the operatic stage. She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Vocal Performance at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, where she also earned her Bachelor’s in Music Education. During her six years at Frost, Julia trained under the guidance of internationally acclaimed baritone Kim Josephson, refining both her artistry and technique.

This season, Julia makes her role debut as Frasquita in Gulfshore Opera’s production of Carmen. She will also cover the role of Despina in Così fan tutte at the Frost School of Music. In addition, Julia joins Florida Grand Opera’s CANTO program, where she looks forward to combining performance with community outreach.

Kelly Guerra

Peruvian-American mezzo-soprano Kelly Guerra is widely recognized for her distinctive voice, described as “rich and sultry, radiating warmth and power, with a smoky timbre” – Isthmus News (2025). As a versatile and passionate performer, Guerra has established herself as a leading figure in the industry. Her 2024–25 season features a diverse array of roles.

She made her Metropolitan Opera debut as one of the Niñas in Golijov’s flamenco opera Ainadamar, Jo March in Mark Adamo’s Little Women with Fort Worth Opera, Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia with Opera Las Vegas, Isabella in L’italiana in Algeri with Anchorage Opera, and María in María de Buenos Aires with Madison Opera.

Luis Orozco

Bass-Baritone

El Dancairo

Mexican-American baritone Luis Orozco has been praised for his “voluminous baritone and beautiful legato.” He made his Metropolitan Opera debut in the 2021–2022 season, singing the Prime Minister in their English version of Cendrillon. Last season, he returned to the Metropolitan Opera as a Flemish Deputy in Don Carlos.

Mr. Orozco returns to Gulfshore Opera after singing the title role in Don Giovanni in 2023. He was also seen recently with Opera Omaha, singing Malatesta in Don Pasquale. He returned to the Nashville Opera for one of his signature roles, Riolobo in Florencia en el Amazonas, and also performed with Vero Beach Opera as Leporello in Don Giovanni. Last season, he also joined Nashville Opera, singing Marcello in La bohème, and Wichita Grand Opera as Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia.

Seth Younglove

Tenor Seth Younglove, a South Carolina native, is an Artist in Residence at the College of Charleston School of Music, pursuing graduate work. He returns to GO after performing the role of Normanno in Lucia di Lammermoor last season.

This summer, Seth will perform with the Seagle Festival in Schroon Lake, New Yor,k as an Emerging Artist, singing the roles of Billy Crocker in Anything Goes and Don José (cover) in Carmen. His recent performances include Tamino in Die Zauberflöte and Hoffmann in Les contes d’Hoffmann with College of Charleston Opera.

David Dai-Han Lee

David Lee, Korean bass-baritone, portrays roles ranging from comprimario to principal. His repertoire includes Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, Snug in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Kobun Chino Otogawa in The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs, Malatesta in Don Pasquale, Frank in Die Fledermaus, and more. As a young artist with Virginia Opera, he performed as a Thug in Daniel Catán’s Il Postino. He covered roles including Il Re in Aida, Don Magnifico in La Cenerentola, and Sacristan in Tosca.

David studied music at Indiana University, the New England Conservatory, and Temple University. He currently resides in Miami, where he is pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Miami under the tutelage of Professor Kim Josephson. Most recently, he performed as Frank Maurrant in Kurt Weill’s Street Scene and as Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro with the Miami Music Festival this summer.

Joseph Calzada

American-Greek bass-baritone Joseph Calzada has an exciting 2025–2026 season, including Don Alfonso (cover) in Così fan tutte with Opera San José, Barone Douphol in La Traviata with Festival Opera and Diablo Symphony Orchestra, Morales and Escamillo (cover) in Carmen with Gulfshore Opera, Fiorello in Il barbiere di Siviglia with San Diego Opera, and Dottore Grenvil in La Traviata with Opera San José.
Mr. Calzada has performed with the Wolf Trap Opera, Opera San José, Livermore Valley Opera, the San Francisco Symphony, The National Symphony Orchestra, Festival of the Aegean, Savannah Opera, and St. Petersburg Opera Company.

Jorge Parodi

Music Director, Conductor

Jorge Parodi is the Music Director at the Moores Opera Center and Professor of Conducting at the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston. He is also the General and Artistic Director of Opera Hispánica, the Music Director of Gulfshore Opera, and the Music Director of Opera in Williamsburg (VA). He is the founder and Artistic Director of the Tokyo International Vocal Arts Academy Summer Workshop and a faculty member at The Juilliard School.

He conducted productions at The Atlanta Opera, New York City Opera, Opera San José, Merola Opera Program, New Orleans Opera, Knoxville Opera, Savannah OPERA, Chautauqua Opera, Opera Orlando, Opera Tampa, Gulfshore Opera, Amarillo Opera, El Paso Opera, Buenos Aires Lírica (Argentina), Castleton Festival, The Banff Centre (Canada) and The Juilliard School.

World Premières: Tom Cipullo’s Hobson’s Choice (Moores Opera Center), John Musto’s Rhoda and the Fossil Hunt (On Site Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Lyric’s Unlimited and Pittsburgh Opera); Anton Coppola’s Lady Swanwhite (Opera Tampa); and Michael Ching’s The Birthday Clown (Savannah OPERA).

Other conducting credits: Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra, NHK Symphony, Naples Philharmonic, Castleton Festival Orchestra, Metamorphosis Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble Zipoli for the American Baroque, Juilliard Pre-College Orchestra, Volgograd Opera (Russia), Ensamble XXI, Orquesta del Conservatorio Nacional (Argentina).

He has collaborated with such artists as Isabel Leonard, Eglise Gutiérrez, Verónica Villarroel, Nancy Fabiola Herrera, Tito Capobianco, Sherrill Milnes, Aprile Millo, and Rufus Wainwright. He has assisted conductors Lorin Maazel and Julius Rudel, among others.

Josh Shaw

Stage Director

Named as one of Musical America’s Top 30 Professionals of the Year in 2023, Josh Shaw is the Founding Artistic Director and CEO of Pacific Opera Project (POP), which has been described as “L.A.’s most exciting opera company.” Over the past fourteen seasons, Mr. Shaw has directed over 60 productions at POP, including The Rake’s Progress, Ariadne auf Naxos, The Mikado, Tosca: A Moving Production, and La boheme: AKA “The Hipsters”.  A frequent librettist for English updates, his Star Trek parody, Abduction from the Seraglioand Nintendo inspired The Magic Flute AKA #SuperFlute have gained national attention and have been produced at multiple companies, shattering attendance records.

 Since turning his attention to directing in 2011, Mr. Shaw has directed over 120 productions at companies including New Orleans Opera, Opera Orlando, Festival Opera, Gulfshore Opera, Opera Montana, Salt Marsh Opera, Opera Neo, Queen City Opera, Opera Orlando, and Opera in the Heights. Previous Gulfshore Opera Productions include Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Die Fledermaus, La bohéme, Turandot, Don Giovanni, and Rusalka.
