Description
Puccini at his most mischievous. A wealthy patriarch dies, his family descends, and the will turns out to be nothing as they had hoped. Into the confusion walks the scheming Gianni Schicchi, already thinking three steps ahead. Set in early 1950s Italy, Fellini’s Italy, where people dress well, argue loudly, and treat an inheritance like a matter of life and death, this one-act comic opera features world-class artists and a cast of 15 scheming relatives, accompanied by a chamber orchestra. The evening runs in two acts: the opera and the wake that follows. As the evening shifts from performance to party, the cast joins the audience for drinks, food, and more music, still scheming how to get their share of the inheritance. GO patrons like a party, so we are doing it our way. English subtitles provided.
